So I'm not doing the Knitting Olympics, because I'm going to be on vacation visiting a friend in NJ for 5 days of the Olympics. I figured there really is no way I'd get anything done. But in solidarity, I did knit my way through the opening cermonies last night.
First, I finished up my husband's wristwarmers. I cast these on just about a year ago, and they took me forever....I figured out halfway through wristwarmer number 2 that I wasn't going to have enough yarn. I then embarked on a quest to get a second skein, and of course that yarn has been discontinued (Classic Elite Waterspun in Black). After much discussion with the husband, we decided that I'd finish up WW #2 in black, and then I'd pick back the cast-on edges on both WW to the same spot, and knit down in a second, also acceptable color. So the cuffs are in some charcoal heather yarn that was in my stash. The finished wristwarmers were worn happily by my husband last night while he was gaming on the computer. I didn't get an action shot, but I modeled one myself early this morning:
Next on my list was a baby blanket I knit for my friend Becky at Motherwear. Andrew was born on December 5th, so I was running behind. I actually finished knitting this ages ago, when I was at my in-law's for Christmas, but I never wove in the ends. Last night I wove in the ends and put it in a gift bag. I just gave it to Becky not 3 minutes ago. Yay! Here's a shot of the full blanket:
and here's a shot of the pinwheel center:
I loved this blanket and I'd definitely make one again. I love the way it looks and I love that I don't need to carry a pattern around while knitting it.
After that, I decided to move on to my Sockapalooza socks. I decided on the Pomotamus socks from Knitty, in Lorna's Laces Sock in Aslan. I've had the yarn forever, saving it, but after 3 years, well, I can let it go. My sock pal likes any color, any pattern, anything...except purple. Which cracks me up, because I love purple, but, amazingly enough, I didn't have any purple sock yarn in the stash, so we're all good. I got through the cuff and the first few rows of pattern last night:
I totally loved the Olympic Opening Ceremonies. I love the Olympics. I have a lot of fond memories of Summer and Winter Olympics. The last Winter Olympics I was working at RCN, doing email tech support late at night. My friend Kris and I stood at the windows of the breakroom, watching the figure skating. We actually got yelled at for being away from our desks. We pointed out that we were in email support, and that we could see our inboxes from 10 feet away, but that didn't fly. That was also the winter that Matt went on the first business trip for the company, so he was gone for three days - which meant I had three days of unfettered figure skating-watching. I also watched a snowboarder - Kelly Clark, maybe? - win her gold.
Well, back to work. Crazy 40% off Clearance sale here at Motherwear until Sunday night. Phone calls and emails are just pouring in.
Just thought I say 'hello' to your pomatomus socks. I've been thinking about my pal's socks for some while and came up with excactly the same idea: LL's and this pattern. Good luck to you, I find it rather tedious to knit (what about you?) but like the result. Of course, I am very uncertain if my sockpal might like it, but that's a fear we all have in common, isn't it?
